Highwater Clays

Highwater Clays from Asheville, NC. are known as some of the finest in the world. It is the only brand used in our classes and by our artist-in-residence.

"We use the finest fireclays from Missouri, Ohio and California, ball clays from Kentucky and Tennessee, kaolins from Georgia, Florida and England, and stoneware clays from Ohio and Georgia, not to mention silica, feldspar, talc and grog. Our staff is in touch with technical personnel at mines around the country, and is always assessing new clays. All of our clay bodies are complex compositions, and we mix each one to a perfect, reliable consistency."

Glazes

Colonial Folk Art uses several brads of glazes, esch selected for the qualility of the fired product and overall performance. Like clay, we offer high fire and low fire glazes for sale more as a courtesy to our artists and other artists in the area. While we carry some glazes in the studio, we are happy to order different or special glazes upon request. We do require a deposit on some specialty glazes.

Firing Services

We will fire pieces of pottery not made in our studio. We will do this for bisque and glaze firing. All pieces brought to the studio must be ready to fire, i.e. totally dry.

Firing of outside pieces is done when other items in the studio are fired. This is roughtly twice per week but more often near holiday seasons.

We must also know if the piece is high or low fire. We do not fire Cone 10.

Please call or e-mail for more information -- beverly@colonialfolkart.com.

Firing rate is $1 per pound (weighed after firing)
